Biharsharif Municipal Corporation was constituted in the year 2007, prior to this the Local body was Municipal Council (established in the year 2002). Biharsharif is the administrative headquarters of Nalanda District. Biharsharif is well connected with other parts of the country by road. National Highways 31 and 82 pass through the city and National Highway 110 terminates in the city. The City has one railway station. The nearest airport is at Patna (90 km) which is further connected to various other airports. Biharsharif spreads from 25º11' 57.66” N latitude to 85º31'3.39” E longitude at an elevation of 51m above mean sea level.
